The Ningen Series (
Background[]
The series began publishing by Kodansha in 2004, after the release of the sixth novel in the Zaregoto Series, Cannibal Magical: Niounomiya Siblings, Masters of Carnage. The first six novels of the Ningen Series are compliations of already released material: Soushiki Zerozaki's Human Exam was originally serialized online, while the short stories in Kishishiki Zerozaki's Human Knock and Magashiki Zerozaki's Human Character were originally published in the Faust and Mephisto magazines respectively, while volumes 4, 5 and 6 were published in their entirety in the Mephisto magazine. The first three books were published with a two year break in between, while the final four were all released at once, on March 25, 2010. dditionally, beginning with the second novel in the series, six collectible cards were packed in with each book, parodying a battle card game (similar to Yu-Gi-Oh!), with each card featuring a character from the story and a series of stats,as well as a special ability based on their capabilities within the story.
Starting on November 2011 and concluding on August 2013, with a total of 23 chapters collected in 5 volumes, a manga adaptation of the first Ningen novel, illustrated by Iruka SHIOMIYA, was serialized, initially in the Pandora Magazine, and later in the Monthly Afternoon Magazine. Shortly afterwards, serialized between October 2014 and November 2016, with a total of 24 chapters collected in 4 volumes, a manga adaptation of the second Ningen novel, illustrated by Chomoran, was released in the Monthly Afternoon Magazine.
Premise[]
The Ningen Series follows the inhabitants of the Violence World, a dark underbelly of society made up of idividuals with strange abilities. Specifically, the series' protagonists are the members of the Zerozaki Clan, the third ranked family of the Killing Names, a group of cutthroat murderers united by their inborn killing impulse. While not related by blood, they are a tight knit family feared and dispised even by other criminals, so much so that there is a consensus among them: no one targets the Zerozaki Clan. The first book follows the turbulent meeting between Iori Mutou and Soushiki Zerozaki as the girl discovers her inner desire to kill. The second and third books follow the life and times of Kishishiki Zerozaki and Magashiki Zerozaki respectively, two high ranking members of the clan. The final four volumes explore the relationships between the only pure-blooded Zerozaki, Hitoshiki Zerozaki, and various other important figures in his life.
Main Cast[]
Title[]
- The titles of each book contain the protagonist's name and an attribute relating to them, all containing the word for "human". The last four books, Hitoshiki Zerozaki's Human Relations, also have a subtitle indicating which character the book focuses on.
