Thirteen Stairs

The Thirteen Stairs (十三階段(じゅうさんかいだん), Jūsan Kaidan) is the main antagonistic force of Uprooted Radical. It is an organization created by Takashi Saitou with the objective of destroying the world.

History

The organization was established by Takashi Saitou in order to serve as his "limbs" after he was expelled from causality. It is another one of his projects to further his ongoing goal of destroying the world, the previous one being MS-2.

Organization

While he is their leader, Takashi isn't technically a part of the Thirteen Stairs himself. The members' "ranks" are given based on their longevity; whenever a member dies or leaves the organization, the members below that individual increase their rank. The only exception to this rule is Akira Kajou, Takashi Saitou's former compatriot who is given the honorary position of First Step despite being deceased; as such, the oldest member of the organization at any given time will hold the position of Second Step.

Most of the Thirteen Stairs are exceptional or unusual individuals, many of them hailing from the Violence World. Each of them have their own reasons for joining, though most are captivated by Takashi's unusual charisma and decide to follow him. While they are given direct orders from the fox masked man, the Steps are shown to have a certain degree of freedom. All Steps aside from Magokoro Omokage wear glasses or some other kind of eyewear due to Takashi's personal fetish for them.

• The kanji for "Thirteen Stairs" also form a Yojijukugo meaning "gallows".
• The Thirteen Stairs is one of two villainous organizations with thirteen superhuman members written by Nisio Isin, the other being the Thirteen Party from Medaka Box.
