Sousaku Yubiwa (
Personality[]
Sousaku is a very quiet and taciturn individual, almost always choosing to stay completely silent, and even when speaking, he is usually does so quite faintly, such that Mayumi Doujima is unable to hear him[2]. He is most often absorbed in some creative activity, not even looking at Mayumi when she first arrived at the club room, an attitude which she interprets negatively, as disinterest or disdain toward her[1]. Even so, he appears to be able to communicate very well with Manabu Soutouin, the leader being able to fully understand what he means to say, in a manner which Mayumi finds incomprehensible[2]. Despite all this, Sousaku does have occasional moments where he will declare something out loud in a full voice, taking Mayumi by surprise[3].
Because of his status and position within the academy's administration, Sousaku is practically revered by his schoolmates, who are afraid of what might happen to them if they upset him. He is considered a genius and child prodigy for being able to shoulder the responsibility of managing a huge organization like the Yubiwa Foundation[1]. Even so, according to Manabu, he is quite modest, not thinking of himself as above anyone and considering his priviledged position to simply be the result of luck, though Mayumi feels that his mindset is strange, considering all of his contributions toward the foundation[2]. During the infiltration of the Reasonable Doubt Casino, when disguised as a dealer, Sousaku reportedly showed an unusual level of sociability, indicating an ability to adapt to social situations when needed[4].
Appearance[]
Sousaku is a boy with short, spikey black hair and dark blue eyes. His dress is peculiar, wearing a long lab coat instead of the usual Yubiwa Academy blazer, with longer sleeves that usually hide his hands, over a white shirt, tucked into the black and white striped pants of his uniform. Instead of wearing the star-patterned tie around his collar, he ties it around his neck into a bow. He also wears a pair of long black boots with two large straps.
Sousaku's manga redesign is the most different of all characters when compared to his original design. In the manga, he has longer straight black hair with an ahoge, and instead of the lab coat, he wears a beige cardigan, still featuring the elongated sleeves, loosely over a white shirt with a black collar. Instead of the striped pants, he wears dark gray pants with a faint plaid design, rolled up just below his knees, revealing a bit of his legs. His black boots also have white shoe laces instead of straps.
Background[]
Sousaku is the heir to the highly affluent Yubiwa Foundation, and is already highly involved in its management despite his youth, which earned him the title of child prodigy. He is also a first year student of class A at Yubiwa Private Academy, the school managed by his corporation[1]. He eventually met Manabu Soutouin and became a member of the Pretty Boy Detective Club, the secret organization and subject of many rumors around the school. Much of the club's funding seems to come from Sousaku, who lends both his capital and his artistic skills to the team's benefit.
Abilities and Equipment[]
- Artistic Sense (
美術 , Bijutsu): Sousaku is highly skilled when it comes to the arts. He shows proficiency in every artistic endeavor, from painting to sculpting to even pottery[2]. The replica art pieces created by him for the Pretty Boy Detective Club office look indistinguishable from the genuine articles to Mayumi at first glance[1]. Aside from just having the ability to craft things himself, Sousaku also appears to have an eye for judging others' creations as well, being able to instantly deduce that Rai Fudatsuki's bills were counterfeit, even though they appeared identical to regular bills to the other club members[5].
