- — Shirasagi Maniwa
Shirasagi Maniwa (
Personality[]
Shirasagi's most peculiar and defining characteristic is his odd manner of speech, always talking backwards, reportedly a function of his ninja art. The only time he spoke regularly was in his death throes, dropping the act in his panic. He appears to be a pompous and arrogant man, taunting Ginkaku Uneri and not showing the necessary caution when facing him, acting and speaking casually. According to his own words, he has a friendly rivalrly with Koumori Maniwa, referring to him as a punk[1].
Appearance[]
Shirasagi is a man with round yellow eyes and long white hair tied in a ponytail. He is shown wearing white sleeveless ninja garb with a long collar, hiding his mouth, feather-shaped shoulder pads, black segments on his chest, and two chains wrapped around his waist and below his chest, with a round golden sigil with a wave design in between them. He has black fabric with a zig-zagging design covering his arms, ending in white cuffs with feather-like dangling bits of fabric. His legwear also has the same black, zig-zagging design, with yellow tips. Additionally, he wears what appears to be a beak-shaped yellow brim of a hat, and wears black make-up on the bottom of his eyes, which make them look as if they're upside down.
Background[]
Shirasagi inherited his name from Shirasagi Maniwa the 1st, one of the first bosses of the Maniwa clan from the Sengoku Period[2]. He was said to be a dangerous individual, enough to make the other bosses cautious of him and glad that he wasn't their enemy. He was dispatched to hunt for the Twelve Possessed, and attempted to take one of the blades from Ginkaku Uneri when he met his demise[1].
Abilities and Equipment[]
- Maniwa Ninja Art: Wrath Seeker (
真庭忍法 逆鱗探 し, Maniwa Ninpō: Gekirin Sagashi): Shirasagi's ninja art. While it shares the name of his predecessor's technique, it is not the same, as the effect Shirasagi the 1st's technique was never revealed[2]. It is said to be a combat-oriented technique rather than one meant for assassination[3], and that his bizarre speech pattern is a function of it. It is reportedly a horrifying technique, its effects only known to those who oppose him[1]. Even so, he never gets the chance to use it during the story, so his ninja art's effects remain unknown.
Quotes[]
- (Shirasagi's self-introduction to Ginkaku) "Nalc Awinam eht fo sessob evlewt eht fo eno, Awinam Igasarihs em llac nac uoy tub. Igasarihs Sdrowkcab em llac elpoep tsom."[1]
Trivia[]
- The Maniwa surname means "garden of truth", partly suggesting the animal motif of the ninja clan.
- Shirasagi's first name means "white heron".
