Shinya Sakaki (逆木(さかき) 深夜(しんや), Sakaki Shinya) is a character from the Zaregoto Series. He is Kanami Ibuki's caretaker, who accompanied her to Wet Crow's Feather Island. He is revealed to be the culprit's accomplice.

Personality

Shinya appears to be a friendly and amiable man, getting along with the others on the island. He is outgoing, suggesting that Kanami paint the Nonsense User when he'd been too nervous to ask. He seems to get along well with the others, but especially with Maki Himena, with whom he often spends time drinking together. He is shown to be concerned for Kanami, stating that he suggested she accept the invitation in the hopes that it would help her become less antisocial. Even so, being in a similar position to the Nonsense User, he has an inferiority complex due to his relationship with Kanami. According to his own words, he was the one who taught her how to paint, and yet she'd surpassed him completely; he appeared to have given up the craft due to this.

In reality, Shinya turns out to be loyal not to Kanami Ibuki, but to the woman who'd taken her place, and who then took the place of Akane Sonoyama through her crime. He is willing to assist her with her murder plan, showing his loyalty. The Nonsense User speculates that Shinya's relationship with her might be the same as his own with Tomo Kunagisa; in which case, the two are extremely similar to one another at their core, despite their differing behavior.

Appearance

Shinya is a man in his thirties with short, dark green hair and pale green eyes. He is shown wearing a light and dark purple shirt, a pair of white pants, pointy gray shoes and a black bracelet on the right hand.

Background

Much of Shinya's past is unclear, but it appears he used to be a painter himself. At some point, he met the genius woman who steals others' identities. She'd decided to become Kanami Ibuki, the famous painter, and Shinya presumably taught her how to paint for the sake of this ambition. However, she quickly surpassed his abilities due to her nature as a genius, and he gave up on his own craft. Later, the woman decided to abandon her identity once more and become Akane Sonoyama, and set up a plan for the two to switch identities while on the island. Shinya then accompanied to woman to the island, helping her with her murder plot.
