The Risuka Series (りすかシリーズ, Risuka Shirīzu) is a light novel series written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Kinu Nishimura.

Background[]

The series was first published in the Faust magazine, running between December 2003 and August 2008. The chapters were later compiled into three light novel volumes, published by Kodansha Novels, with one chapter unreleased. In July 2020, Risuka made a comeback with the fourth volume being announced along with a live-action PV being dropped. Bunko versions of the first three volumes were released over time as well. In November 2020, a short manga adapting the climax of the first chapter was released digitally, that would later be included in the fourth volume of Risuka. The manga was illustrated by Hiro Mashima. The illustrations for the novels were handled by former Capcom illustrator Kinu Nishimura.

Premise[]

The series follows the fifth-grade magic-user, Risuka Mizukura, and the manipulative genius class representative, Kizutaka Kugi, as they embark on a search for Risuka's father and one of the most powerful wizards, Shingo Mizukura, around the Saga Prefecture, battling many Mages along the way. In the world of Mahou Shoujo Risuka, the Nagasaki Prefecture used to be a magical kingdom with unparalleled power, which prompted the United States to drop the atomic bomb on them during World War II. Decades later, Nagasaki is the walled of Land of Magic, a place filled with many different mages. Other mages, living outside of the Land of Magic, must keep their abilities secret, and also cannot cross the ocean.
