Outouin Private Academy (私立桜桃院学園(しりつおうとういんがくえん), Shiritsu Ōtōin Gakuen) is the main setting of the first volume of the Sekai Series, Our Broken World. It is a private school attended by Kuroneko Byouinzaka, Samatoki Hitsuuchi and the other members of the cast.

Information

Outouin Academy is a fairly distinguished and hard to enter private school, recommended to Yorutsuki by her parents as a better choice than a public school for her bright mind. Both a high school and a middle school are incorporated into the academy, with students smoothly advancing through the stages. The school is fairly high tech for its time, using machines similar to turnstiles at the school gate, which students can only pass through by using their ID cards, thereby clearly recording who went in and out of the school.

The school has a laissez-faire policy when it comes to student behavior, valuing personal responsibility; as long as a student's grades are good enough, they are even allowed to sleep in class. The exception to this is class 7, which is a more strict class with a much bigger focus on education and conduct, where classes will sometimes even go past the end of the period, until the teacher has finished their lesson. A curious case within the school is that of Kuroneko Byouinzaka's, who studies by herself in the infirmary because of her social anxiety, which makes her very sick when surrounded by many unknown people. The school would normally expell such a student, but because of Kuroneko's status as the greatest performing student in the academy's history, she is allowed to go on as is.

The school's management is shown to be quite careless or even downright negligent when not locking the door to the roof even after an incident where a student almost fell off.

Stairway to Heaven

The "Ascending Rollercoaster, Stairway to Heaven" (『昇(のぼ)りだけのジェットコースター・天国(てんごく)への階段(かいだん)』, Nobori no Jettokōsutā: Tengoku e no Kaidan), also known as the Millenium Slope (千年坂(せんねんさか), Sennensaka), the Dizzy Slope (眩暈坂(めまいさか), Memaisaka) or the Heart Render (心臓破(しんぞうやぶ)り, Shinzōyaburi), is the infamously difficult to traverse slope leading to Outouin Academy, dreaded by all students for the tremendous effort needed to walk up it.

Uniform

The Outouin Academy male uniform is a gray gakuran with a black line spanning the perimeter of the collar, and two black lines ends of the sleeves, worn over a white shirt, and matching gray pants. The summer uniform is a simple short-sleeved white shirt.

The female uniform is modeled after a sailor uniform, light gray in color, with a dark colored collar and cuffs, and a black ribbon tied around the collar, with a white line traversing it, worn alongside a brown skirt. The summer uniform is similar, but has short sleeves and a white collar and white cuffs.
