"... You're about to enter high school, so you should graduate from childish playtime."
- — Odoru Soutouin
Odoru Soutouin (
Personality[]
Odoru, as a high schooler, is the exact opposite of Manabu Soutouin. He's serious and much more dull of a person. When asked about the Pretty Boy Detective Club and his former role as the student council president, he shows an awkward "I don't want to talk about it" embarrassment towards it, saying he doesn't do that anymore[1].
Mayumi Doujima describes him as ordinary, plainly kind, and an ordinary good guy, contrasting against Manabu's childish atmosphere. Not only that, but she sees him as awkward and standoffish. When they converse, she feels like he is distancing himself even though he is old friends with Nagahiro Sakiguchi[1].
As a middle schooler, Odoru used to be more vibrant and a party to be around, bringing joy to all of his fellow Pretty Boy Detective Club members. Nagahiro says that, when Odoru was around, the club felt like a musical each day[1].
Appearance[]
As Odoru is Manabu's brother, he holds a close resemblance to him. His hair has a sky blue colour and is a tad longer than Manabu's, though Odoru's hair is not parted and has tidy bangs. He has similarly coloured blue eyes as well, with the standard Yubiwa Private Academy male uniform.
In the past, when he was in middle school, Odoru is much more rowdy, with messier hair and longer bangs sweeping to his left. He also wore a royal blue tuxedo along with a dark blue hat that resembles a fedora, with some differences. He resembled Manabu much more, with similar twinkling wide eyes and a large, childish smile.
Background[]
As a high schooler, he finds things such as the Pretty Boy Detective Club as childish playtime, and even goes as far to say that Manabu can't be spoiled by everyone forever and will have to grow up. Their exact relationship is unknown, though it's said to not be strained. It is apparent that both Odoru and Manabu have starkly different ideals, with Odoru valuing a more serious mature life while Manabu clings to child-like innocence and refuses to see that which he doesn't like[1].
During his time as a member and the founder of the Pretty Boy Detective Club, he always spoke in song and dance. Making each case they faced sound like fantastical tales, truly living up to his name as Odoru the Storyteller[1].
At Yubiwa Private Academy, Odoru left a large mark as the student council president and his name is still talked about to this day. He even lets Mayumi use his name for her campaign, so as to help boost her chance of winning the election. Like Nagahiro, he also fought against the academy's limitation of freedom and creativity[1].
His transition between his past and present self likely came from graduating middle school and, by extension, graduating from children's games. He no longer thinks about trying to be pretty, nor be a boy, nor be a detective. Not only did his personality change, but Odoru also gave up song and dance as well due to busier studies and knowing how high the national level was. Nagahiro shows doubts with the reasoning and thinks it's not what really happened[1].
Abilities and Equipment[]
- Storytelling: Odoru was capable of making anything sound like an epic tale through song and dance[1]. It's unknown if he is still able to do so as a high schooler.
Quotes[]
- (In regards to Manabu) "Can you tell him that he shouldn't be spoiled by older boys and girls forever?"
- (In regards to Sakiguchi) "... You're about to enter high school, so you should graduate from childish playtime."
Trivia[]
- Odoru's first name means "dance", and, unlike the other member's names, his name is not part of the word "moving tale" (
美談 , Bidan). - Odoru's last name, Soutouin, means "double-headed temple".
- Odoru's title, Odoru the Storyteller, like the other titles of the members of the club, is composed of a word specific to the character which begins with the kanji 美, meaning "beauty", followed by the character's name in katakana.
