Naoetsu Private Academy (私立直江津高校(しりつなおえつこうこう), Shiritsu Naoetsu Kōkō) is one of the primary settings of the first three seasons of the Monogatari Series. It is a private prep school located in Naoetsu Town, which many members of the main cast attend, including Koyomi Araragi, Hitagi Senjougahara, Tsubasa Hanekawa and Suruga Kanbaru.

Information

Naoetsu Private Academy is a prep school with a fairly high bar for entry. While still participating in events like the cultural festival, it's much more focused on serious education than other schools, leading to Araragi's low grades. Naoetsu is noted to have an eighteen year history, though another educational institution stood in its place before. Due to its recency, it doesn't have many rumors or ghost stories, though a set of "seven school wonders" is said to exist.

Uniform

Naoetsu Private Academy has a distinctive and recognizable set of uniforms. Male students wear a typical black gakuran style uniform, typically reserved for junior high school students, with a red highlight on the ends.

The female uniform has a more unusual design. The top is a light purplish pink in color, with red lapels and sleeve cuffs, as well as padded shoulders and a purple ribbon or, alternatively, a purple tie with a red highlight (Suruga Kanbaru's ribbon is yellow, suggesting that the color varies by grade). The skirt is medium in length and purple. Notably, Ougi Oshino alone is shown wearing a slightly different female uniform, a softer and redder shade of pink in color, with more vividly red lapels and cuffs, as well as a black tie and black skirt.

Seven School Wonders

The Seven Wonders (七不思議(ななふしぎ), Nana Fushigi) are a common set of rumors present in schools. Because of Naoetsu Academy's relatively short lifetime, there aren't many rumors about the school, but it nonetheless is mentioned to have its own set of Seven Wonders.

Stone Shrine

A mysterious wooden shrine altar with an oval stone enshrined in it. Students who come across it often leave little offerings of candy, but nobody really knows its origin. Koyomi Araragi and Tsubasa Hanekawa investigate it, suspecting it to be an aberration tale that Meme Oshino might find useful. However, they later realize its true nature: a failed project that Koyomi himself made during a woodworking class. When told to bring it home, he instead tried to throw it away in the school's dumpster. However, while heading there, he found a lopsided rock which complemented the shrine's crooked exterior, hiding its imperfection. On a whim, he decided to leave the "shrine" there, and went on to forget about it. Upon remembering, he decided to take responsibility and throw away the shrine. He later realized that the rock was actually a piece of concrete.

Classroom 1-3

A abberant space made in the form of the classroom of Koyomi's first year class. It is located between the A/V room and the wall, in a supposed gap not matching the floor plans of the school. It was created by Ougi Oshino, using her Matter Creation skill. When she and Koyomi visit it, it holds the property of being unable to exit until they solve the mystery of the class meeting from two years past, following Sodachi Oikura's declaration that nobody would leave until they'd found the culprit. Even after they solve the case, the classroom still remains, although it is unable to be accessed by most. Following Suruga Kanbaru's graduation, the classroom becomes Ougi's home, and she is able to enter and exit it at will, becoming known among the student body as one of the Seven Wonders.
