Personality[]
Myouri has a flippant and ill-mannered attitude that heavily contrasts with his young age, perpetually maintaining a cocky smirk and a cynical disposition. He can easily fly into a rage when underestimated because of his age, and shows no mercy to targets of the disciplinary committee. Due to his personal philosophy of "going overboard" for the sake of justice, his main method of dealing with those that break the school rules is violence, considering that people will simply reoffend without proper punishment, and that peaceful solutions are ineffective[3]. His brutality goes to the extent that even the academy's board of directors considers him a problem[2]. Even so, he does follow his own principles, and won't attack someone who hasn't broken any rule[3]. He has a habit of breaking his own electronics, particularly when angered, and then often blaming other people for it[1][4]. Despite his age, Myouri acts like a womanizer, levying inappropriate comments to Medaka on more than one occasion[3][5], as well as enjoying being pampered by his female subordinates[2].
Myouri is deeply misanthropic, his disdain and hatred for humanity being the driving force of his fight for justice. He doesn't believe that people can improve, and that the only way order can be achieved is by binding them with strict rules and threats of harsh punishment. In his own words, while he upholds justice, he doesn't believe that justice is inherently superior to evil, nor that it can change people for the better[4], and even admits that his brand of overboard justice is what leads to misery[6]. While he denounces everything about humans, even their positive qualities like friendship, love and honor[4], he still lets his pride as the leader of the disciplinary committee and the image of his subordinates sway him into continuing to fight, even as he knew that retreating would have been the smarter option[5]. In general, Myouri shows a much more considerate side to his subordinates than anyone else, ordering them to evacuate the school when staging his attack on the student council so that they don't get involved in it[4], and generally treating them with more concern than others, though he covers up this side of himself by acting the role of a strict leader[6].

As the vice-chairwoman of the disciplinary committee, Fue Yobuko is one of Myouri's most trusted subordinates, the chairman enjoying her respect and loyalty. He trusts in her capablilities, having entrusted many missions to her in the past[7], though he still sends her home before staging his attack, not wanting to involve her in a battle between Abnormals[4]. Outside of their official relationship, he also appears to be quite close to her, the woman often doting on him, Myouri often being found enjoying himself by sitting on her lap during breaks while healing his injuries[2].
Harigane Onigase[]
As one of the most infamously strict members of the disciplinary committee, Harigane Onigase joined the committee because she agreed with Myouri's principles; however, seeing the extent of his violence at play, she thinks that he's taking it too far, and even has the courage to speak up to him, asking him to stop attacking Medaka, and Myouri appreciates her willingness to stand up to him, though he doesn't listen to her[3]. As one of his most competent subordinates, he entrusts her to keep the peace at the school while he's out of commission due to his injuries[6].
Other Subordinates[]
Myouri is mostly shown interacting with his female subordinates[2], having very few friends that aren't female. He has pride in his subordinates and the disciplinary committee as a whole, wishing to protect its honor, and he also shields them from the danger of a fight between Abnormals by sending all of them home[4]. Outside of their professional relationships, most of the female members of the committee seem to dote on Myouri and find him cute, and he enjoys their pampering[2].

Myouri is a ten-year-old boy with thin, sharp yellow eyes (brown in the anime version) and messy, spikey white hair. He is typically shown wearing the disciplinary committee version of the Hakoniwa Academy uniform, typically portrayed as baggy and ill-fitting on his underdeveloped body. The uniform consists of a white jacket with a large circular collar, a dark blue stripe on its end, also fitted with a dark blue segment similar to a sailor collar, a white stripe decorating the edge and a golden one in the center, and an oversized zipper slider attached to the place where the collar connects. A dark blue stripe traverses the middle of the jacket, where the zipper would be, as well as an identically-colored line on the bottom edge of the garment. The ends of the sleeves have two circular dark blue stripes separated by a golden stripe, the sides of the jacket is decorated with three horizontal dark blue lines, and the left sleeve features a rounded tag denoting his position as chairman of the disciplinary committee, similar to an armband. The uniform is also composed of a pair of dark blue baggy pants with the ends rolled up in order to fit him, the interior of the pants being white. He also wears blue shoes with brown soles, decorated with some golden stripes. He is also portrayed wearing street clothes, consisting of a black parka with a white hood and white sleeves, albeit with two black stripes traversing from the shoulder to the cuffs, separated by three golden lines. The cuffs are black, featuring a golden stripe. The hoodie is worn over a white T-shirt with a golden stripe traversing the bottom edge. He also wears baggy black sweatpants with two white lines traversing the sides of each leg, separated by a thin black stripe and two golden stripes on the outer edges. With this outfit, the also wears light blue sneakers with white soles and three white vertical stripes, a pair of red headphones with silver segments, and other silver accesories such as a chain. Ten years later, as a young adult, Unzen is shown to largely share the same features as his young self, his eyes slightly thinner and his hair slightly longer, and wears an outfit reminiscent to his committee uniform, though lacking the long round collar.

異常性 , Abunōmaru, lit. "Strangeness"): As a student of class 13, Myouri's mentality is classified as Abnormal, with a Plus polarity. Although he is never shown to possess any particular Skill, only using his specialized weapons during combat, he shares the general characteristics of any Abnormal, including his perpetual unlikely results during the dice test, which in his case manifest as always rolling all 6s, no matter how many dice he rolls[2]. - Anti-Personnel Weapon: Super Ball (

The Super Balls are the first weapons that Myouri is shown to utilize. Initially too fast too see, only the damage left by his attacks being shown[3], the true nature of his offensive technique is later figured out by Medaka: Myouri uses tiny, multicolored and extremely elastic balls, manipulating them by calculating the trajectory of his throws and making them bounce off the walls. Learning the skill to use them reportedly took Myouri about a year, though Medaka is able to reproduce it instantly using The End[4]. Though treated as his main weapon, he later refers to the Super Balls as "fakes", used exclusively to misdirect his enemies from his real weapon, Cinderella[5]. According to the volume extras, a set of twelve combat Super Balls costs ¥1200000[8].

Cinderella is a modified version of the Super Balls which are filled with gunpowder, making them explosive. According to his own words, he is more proficient at using Cinderella than his normal Super Balls. Though typically using them to break through walls or other obstacles, Myouri is additionally shown using them by tricking his opponents into believing that they are regular Super Balls, giving them a false sense of security which he takes advantage of to dispatch them by surprise[4]. He himself defends against the blast by using his Snow White armored uniform, though this type of attack still poses a significant risk to his own life[9].

Myouri refers to the String Balls as his "ultimate weapons". Encased within the same extremely elastic material that the regular Super Balls are made of, the String Balls contain Ariadne, a type of hyper-resilient thread also used to make Snow White. As a new scientific discovery, a single Ariadne string can reportedly hold up to five tons, and not even Medaka is capable of ripping them apart. By using them within a closed environment, Myouri can bounce the String Balls around the walls, thereby wrapping his enemy in multiple strings and trapping them[5].

Woven from the same thread as the String Ball, Ariadne[5], it is a new creation by scientists, possessing heat resistance, pressure resistance and high impact resistance, also being used by deep sea divers. Though its defense is top-notch, it is reportedly very heavy and difficult to move in. Even so, Medaka is still capable of penetrating Snow White's armor; according to Medaka herself, Snow White can withstand to up to three of her full-strength hits. According to the volume extras, Myouri's model is size S, and its suggested price is ¥87500000[9].

- Myouri's last name, Unzen, is written with the characters for "cloud" and "hermit". As with most other characters in Medaka Box, it is taken from a place name: Unzen, Nagasaki.
- Myouri's first name means "providence".
- Like every other character in Medaka Box, Myouri's blood type is AB.
- The thread that makes up the String Ball, Ariadne, is named after the daughter of King Minos. In Greek mythology, Ariadne gave Theseus a ball of thread that would give him a path to retrace as he ventured into the labyrinth to fight the Minotaur.
- The kanji names of the Super Ball and Cinderella use the kanji 弾, which means "ball", but is typically used for bullets. The name of the String Ball, however, uses the kanji 玉, which is the character usually used for "ball".
- The specialized uniform Snow White is specifically referred to as a toppuku, which refers to a type of long jacket worn by bōsōzoku biker gang members.
