The 34th Box: Can't Take Your Life (第(だい)３４箱(はこ)　きみの命(いのち)は殺(ころ)せない, Dai 34 Hako: Kimi no Inochi wa Korosenai) is the thirteenth chapter of the Thirteen Party arc and the overall thirty-fourth chapter of the Medaka Box manga series, written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Akira Akatsuki. It was collected in the fourth volume.

Summary

Zenkichi remembers the confrontation between Misogi Kumagawa and Medaka from middle school, when, although she won, she ended up more damaged than her opponent, and reaffirms his conviction to never allow anyone like Kumagawa near Medaka ever again, which is why he wishes to be Kei Munakata's opponent instead of her.

Facing one another, Munakata states that they can't get past without defeating him, to which Zenkichi declares that he doesn't care about getting past, but he does want to defeat the man. Then, Munakata pulls out another katana, holding it out in Zenkichi's direction. When the boy asks what that's for, Munakata offers it to him, since he's unharmed. Grinning, Zenkichi refuses the offer, stating that, while he could use it, he's actually a peaceful person, and so doesn't like weapons made for harming others. Watching from the sidelines, Maguro tells Medaka that Munakata would have slashed him if he'd tried taking the sword, then comments on how Zenkichi is almost as stubborn as her, to which Medaka responds that he's even more stubborn than her. Kikaijima is concerned for Zenkichi, and though Akune assents that Munakata is a very dangerous opponent, he nonetheless affirms that he's not worried about Zenkichi, who stood by Medaka's side and protected her all this time. Beginning the fight, Munakata attacks Zenkichi with the katana in his hand, but Zenkichi punches the sword, knocking it into the ceiling. Munakata then pulls out more swords and spears from his sleeves, attacking Zenkichi with them, but the man defends from all of them with his fists, knocking them away, shocking the twins, who question if Zenkichi is even afraid of swords. Maguro compliments Zenkichi's fighting strategy of knocking away the weapons one by one, prompting Medaka to be surprised at how attentive her brother is to his actions, mentioning that he should be rooting for his former student, Munakata, in this situation. Maguro, however, says that he's actually being really hard on Zenkichi, asserting that if he comes close to dying, he'll judge him as unworthy to protect Medaka, calling this his final test.

Judging swords to be useless against him, Munakata pulls out two huge iron hammers instead, bewildering Zenkichi. Meanwhile, Akune asks Maguro if Munakata is actually very poor at using all those weapons stocked on him, which Maguro confirms, praising Akune for noticing. Akune asks if Maguro didn't try teaching Munakata how to use them properly, and Maguro explains that he'd tried, but the boy had no aptitude for them, viewing them as mere tools to kill instead of extensions of himself, though he then says that that's fine, since Munakata isn't a warrior but a killer. As Munakata strikes at Zenkichi with the two hammers, Zenkichi catches them both in his hands, then attempts a kick. Judging those weapons useless as well, Munakata drops the hammers and dodges, Maguro pointing out to Akune how easily Munakata can discard his weapons. Medaka then asks Maguro if he chose this opponent for Zenkichi because he's an amateur, but Maguro easily denies it, telling her that she'll soon see the killer's nature. Zenkichi himself remains wary, trying to figure out what Munakata's deal is, and then Munakata declares that he finally found the perfect weapon to use on Zenkichi, pulling out a massive spiked staff, easily twice his size, calling it the weapon that will take his life and shocking everyone. He explains that the staff's length can cover for his poor movements, and that the opponent won't be able to dodge it. A baffled Zenkichi asks if it's too late to ask to have that, and Munakata refuses, launching an attack. In the nick of time, Zenkichi catches the staff by wrapping it in his shirt, which he quickly took off, and then, holding the weapon in place, launches a kick to Munakata, sending him flying. Akune and Kikaijima rejoice, thinking that Zenkichi won, but Maguro denies their excitement, stating that Zenkichi will regret not taking him out with that last attack. From the ground, Munakata mutters that he can't take Zenkichi's life with that weapon either, and then, getting up, he pulls out two guns, a magnum and a desert eagle, pointing them at his opponent. As Zenkichi looks on, worried, Maguro comments that this is where the boy needs to show how much of a man he is.
