Summary[]
A flashback to Shigusa's time as a child is shown, the boy having realized his exceptional reflexes during a school dodge ball match. The knowledge of his talents led him to having a superiority complex, but he led a fairly normal life, all until one day when he was 12 years old. While on a trip celebrating his getting into middle school, his family's car got into a terrible traffic accident, and he was the only one to survive, his reflexes helping him get into the perfect position to avoid all injuries. At that point, he realized that he wasn't superhuman, but an "out of place abnormal freak".
Shigusa stands up, to the shock of everyone, commenting that if Medaka hadn't gone for the data, he wouldn't be able to stand. Zenkichi panics, but then Medaka herself stands up, saying that she'll have to take back her declaration of victory and call the match a draw instead. Shigusa doesn't accept this, yelling at Medaka to continue their bout, but she says that she no longer has any reason to fight, as she's destroyed the data, wanting to preserve her strength for the other floors. However, as she turns around, Shigusa pleads to her that she wait, and then, stammering, he explains that the reason for them to fight is that she's there. He says that he doesn't care about the Flask Plan or research, but that he just wants to 'talk' to her. Zenkichi doesn't understand Shigusa, telling Medaka to just ignore him, but Medaka apologizes to her childhood friend, saying that she can't help herself and that she also wants to 'talk' to him. Understanding her feelings, Zenkichi encourages her, saying that they'll go ahead to the lower floors.
Facing each other, Shigusa and Medaka launch into a flurry of punches, stunning spectators, Akune wondering why Shigusa isn't dodging, to which the twins explain that he can't dodge, as he's in such rough shape that his muscles can't catch up to his reflexes. They comment that they can't understand why the man would get himself into such an ugly match, to which Shigusa thinks that they should shut their mouths, and that this is what he'd been waiting for all this time, having joined the Flask Plan in hopes of it creating someone who can keep up with him, though losing hope when seeing that none of the other Thirteen Party members could touch him either. However, now that he's finally found someone like that, he laughs delightedly. Medaka comments that she, too, is enjoying herself, but then says that she's at her limit, and that it's time to end this, sending a punch to Shigusa's face. Thinking that he wants to play with her more, Shigusa dodges the blow, to which the twins rejoice that he actually can use his reflexes, though Zenkichi then points out that it wasn't due to reflex, but a combination of reflexes and judgement, thinking to himself that the man grew during this fight, learning to mix fast movements with optimal thinking. He cackles that they're not done yet, but then receives a kick to the head, instantly knocking him down. As he falls, Medaka explains that she attacked on reflex, at which Shigusa realizes that she can act reflexively as well, and just turn those reflexes off at will. Falling to the floor, he thinks that all of his abilities were rendered average before her. Medaka turns to him and says that, though their fight is over for today, he can come play with her the next day, though Shigusa refuses.
Akune is relieved that everything ended up as it normally does in the end, but Zenkichi warily thinks that things couldn't have ended up any worse, since Medaka was actually unable to turn on her reflexes up until that point, meaning that she also grew from the fight, thinking that it's like the Flask Plan is getting what it wants, using Medaka as a guinea pig. Meanwhile, in the headmaster's office, Hakama Shiranui monologues to an inattentive Hansode that even Abnormals desire relationships, but can't achieve them due to their superiority, and Medaka is no exception, stating that the time she spends with others like her will surely change her way of thinking. Hansode asks Hakama who the next opponent will be, and the elder answers that Kei Munakata awaits them on the next floor, and he adds that although he's not as good as Shigusa, he is on the nation's most wanted list for mass murder.
