The 27th Box: The Things that Happen at the School I Attend (第(だい)２７箱(はこ)　私(わたし)の通(かよ)う学園(がくえん)での出来事(できごと)だ, Dai 27 Hako: Watashi no Kayō Gakuen de no Dekigoto da) is the sixth chapter of the Thirteen Party arc and the overall twenty-seventh chapter of the Medaka Box manga series, written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Akira Akatsuki. It was collected in the fourth volume.

Summary

Standing at the top of the clock tower, Oudo Miyakonojou explains that he likes watching the sun rise in the morning because it is the only thing he feels is on par with him, so it's like looking in the mirror for him, which is why he invited Medaka to this spot for their date. In response, Medaka, who has just arrived along with Zenkichi, says that he's unexpectedly romantic, and knows how to treat a woman, despite his arrogance, but then apologizes, saying that she didn't have time to look in the mirror or ready herself that morning, showing herself in her battered training clothes. Oudo says that he'll forgive her clothing for showing up on time, but that bringing another guy to their date is unforgivable. In response, Medaka states that she came not as a girl, but as the student council president, declaring that he will tell her everything he knows about the Flask Plan. Oudo says that he likes her strong will, but that they can't get anywhere without manners, and orders her to kneel with his Weighted Words. However, Medaka and Zenkichi both remain standing, albeit struggling. Oudo is impressed, but then, wanting to test just how far they've gotten in one night, says it seriously this time, ordering them to prostrate, but Medaka and Zenkichi once again remain fully standing. Oudo asks them what kind of hell they could have gone through in one night, saying that they're like totally different people. In response, Medaka states that they had a degenerate coach working with them all night, which leads Oudo to realize the connection between her and Maguro, calling it understandable with his tutelage. However, he then dismisses it, approaching them menacingly and explaining that his Weighted Words aren't some kind of finishing move, and that he can use violence if needed, although he doesn't want to against a woman. Zenkichi puts Medaka behind his back, declaring that he won't let Oudo lay a finger on her, which irritates the man, who asks him who he is to Medaka and why he keeps getting in the way of his love life, saying that he'll crush him and get him out of his way (all the while getting his name wrong). In response, Zenkichi delivers a kick to Oudo's chin as he declares himself to be Medaka's childhood friend, throwing him off the tower. Zenkichi yells at Oudo to get up, saying that he'll continue kicking the man until he remembers his name.

However, after a moment of silence, he begins to get worried, and as Medaka monotonely reprimands him for going wild in such a high place, Zenkichi rushes to the edge of the tower, looking down and asking if Oudo is alright, only to find the man confidently standing with his hands on his hips on the wall of the tower. Oudo praises Zenkichi's kick, though adding that finds it slightly insulting for a Normal to worry about his safety. He says that, since the Earth is too small for him, not even gravity can hold him down, though he immediately says that it's just a joke, revealing that he's just grabbing the wall with his feet, and that anyone can do it with some training, revealing that there's someone in the Thirteen Party who even walks on the ceiling using this technique. Medaka asks if this is a result of the Flask Plan, but Oudo explains that the Flask Plan's goal is turning Normals into Abnormals, so it has no effect on people who are already Abnormal, saying that the Thirteen Party are just guinea pigs in a lab, and that she should happily lend a hand if she was born for the sake of others. Medaka says that she wouldn't join a project that she knows nothing about, to which Oudo presents her with a question: if there was a drink which could turn her and Zenkichi into a genius immediately, would they drink it? The two immediately say that they wouldn't, which Oudo had expected, but he goes on to say that they can't force that kind of hard work on other people, and that hard work isn't guaranteed to pay off anyway, saying that the Flask Plan's goal is to create a genius drink for such people. He then adds that the drink is just a metaphor, and so there aren't any side effects. Medaka angrily questions what people could hope to gain without working hard or paying any price, saying that, if you don't put yourself on the line, you're putting someone else. Oudo says that she's not completely wrong, revealing that they're going to put all of the students of Hakoniwa Academy on the line, explaining that they'll apply the curriculum on all of the students at the academy once it's devised, which will probably lead to at least 98% of them "breaking", though the ones that do get through it will change the world. Zenkichi asks how they can put people on the line for something so stupid, to which Oudo, turning back and walking down the tower, says that, although he doesn't believe the headmaster's motivations are pure, he does have a noble goal, and that four of the ones that survive the ordeal will be rewarded, with Oudo making them the "four horsemen for his Utopia", also saying that Medaka will become the first queen of that paradise. Medaka asks if he called her out her for that stupid proposal, to which he adds that she should invite people to bolster the population. Medaka, understanding that he's referring to other students of class 13, asks how she could invite them, since they don't come to class. Oudo, however, reveals that they do actually come to school, attending the secret facility under the academy, its only entrance being the first floor of the clock tower. As he departs, Oudo says that Medaka should come by if she's interested and that she'll be welcomed with opened arms. Left alone, Zenkichi asks Medaka what she's planning to do, to which she explains that, metaphor or not, she can't allow people to be sacrificed for this plan, and declares that she'll use all of her authority as the student council president to destroy the Flask Plan.
