The 22nd Box: What Do You Guys Think? (第(だい)２２箱(はこ)　君(きみ)たちはどう思(おも)いました？, Dai 22 Hako: Kimitachi wa Dō Omoimashita?) is the first chapter of the Thirteen Party arc and the overall twenty-second chapter of the Medaka Box manga series, written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Akira Akatsuki. It was collected in the third volume.

Summary

Having called Medaka to his office, the headmaster, Hakama Shiranui thanks her for dealing with Myouri Unzen, as the board of directors was concerned about his antics. Medaka says there's no need to thank her, then asking him to help convince his granddaughter, Hansode Shiranui, to work with her, though Hakama laughs it off, saying that the only one who can control her is, at best, Medaka's friend, Zenkichi. He then broaches the main subject, explaining that he wants Medaka to take Myouri's place in the project he's supervising, the Flask Plan, due to their fight resulting in him being incapacitated.

At the same time, Myouri is eating lunch in the cafeteria alongside his disciplinary committee subordinates, and he tells them about how the Flask Plan is the only reason for the students of class 13 being gathered from across the country, and also that all of Myouri's armaments were given to him in exchange for participation in the plan. Harigane Onigase asks Myouri what exactly class 13 even is, to which he begins to explain that there are three types of people in the world: Normal, Special and Abnormal.

Hakama asks Medaka if she's ever wondered why she's so amazing. She responds that she's never thought of herself as amazing, but Hakama insists that there's no need to be humble, saying that it's clear she's abnormal, listing of her numerous miraculous and impossible feats, and asserting that it's clear that she's not normal and not just special, but downright abnormal. She says that he's overestimating her, and that her accomplishments are merely the result of practice, but Hakama calls this a mere excuse, and then hands her a glass filled with dice, asking her to partake in a little experiment.

At the same time, Myouri pulls out some dice himself, and when he throws them onto the table, he surprises everyone when they all land on a six. He explains to his mystified subordinates that when someone from class 13 tries to throw dice, something like that always happens, calling it an inexplicable phenomenon. He says that the Flask Plan's purpose is to make a theory out of that inexplicable abnormality.

In the chairman's office, Medaka slightly stuns even Hakama when her dice end up in a tower of sixes, explaining that this always happens when she throws dice. She says she doesn't understand it, but he reassures that it's a good result.

Myouri explains that the goal of the Flask Plan is to create geniuses, and remarks that he's thankful for Medaka getting him out of it, saying that there's one big problem in the layout of the plan. At that moment, Zenkichi and Shiranui walk by, and Zenkichi stops to ask Myouri more about the project, having overheard about it, to which Myouri says that he also wanted to talk to Zenkichi.

Hakama explains that the Flask Plan has thirteen participants taken from class 13, and that freshmen normally wouldn't be allowed to join, but she qualifies because she beat Myouri. Medaka cuts off his explanation, saying that she won't participate, as she doesn't fundamentally believe that geniuses exist, apologizing then promptly excusing herself. Hakama, left alone, laments that he should have had her join before explaining the plan's details, then comments on how she's so strong that her weaknesses are easy to see, before asking the opinion of those behind him. Kei Munakata comments that he's not impressed, as Medaka didn't notice they'd been there all along, but Shigusa Takachiho replies that she must have just ignored them, as he tried to kill her five times and failed each time. Itami Koga opines that she must have beaten Myouri merely out of luck, but that she likes people like her. Youka Naze states that she has nothing to say on the matter. Mizou Yukuhashi says that she's fine, as the Flask plan will ultimately continue as long as he and Oudo are there, while Oudo Miyakonojou says that he'll allow a woman as attractive as Medaka to live in his world. In response to their musings, Hakama comments that Medaka is nothing but a kitten compared to them, while inwardly thinking that they're a troublesome group, though better than the other six, who'd ignored him and didn't even show up. Itami asks what he'll do now that Medaka refused, but Hakama reassures that she'll end up begging to join, just like they'd done, explaining that he's only concerned about her safety, as he believes other students will try to beat Medaka in order to become part of the Flask Plan themselves. At the same time he says this, Medaka comes face to face with Myouga Unzen.

In the cafeteria, Zenkichi and Shiranui are surprised to learn about Myouri's sister, who explains that she's come to school for the first time in a while, and tells them to warn Medaka that she's looking to avenge her little brother, though commenting that it might already be too late, as Medaka is showed having been bludgeoned by Myouga's ball and chain, the girl standing over her and saying something in her made-up numerical language.
