The 10th Box: You Could've Drowned (第(だい)１０箱(はこ)　溺死確実(できしかくじつ)の危険(きけん)な行為(こうい)だ, Dai 10 Hako: Dekishi Kakujitsu no Kiken na Kōi da) is the tenth chapter of the Medaka Box manga series and its first arc, the Student Council Executive arc, written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Akira Akatsuki. It was collected in the second volume.

Summary

Tanzaku Aso announces the water basketball match and explains the rules before introducing herself as the commentator of this event, also introducing Shiranui as the one in charge of analysis. She then mentions hearing that Shiranui is close friends with Zenkichi Hitoyoshi of the student council, asking her about how they met, to which Shiranui nostalgically explains that he'd picked up an eraser she dropped, shocking Aso with the briefness of the story and prompting Zenkichi to complain to himself about Shiranui giving half-assed answers. Then, Nekomi Nabeshima approaches, commenting on how Zenkichi and Akune wouldn't be able to do anything because of the handicap floaties. Zenkichi points out that Nabeshima made her team all girls purely to avoid the handicap because of the advantage it would bring, prompting her to brag that, although she's given up the seat of judo team captain, she still retains the title of Foul King. Medaka then approaches, wearing a different bikini, and tells Nabeshima to see her intent through, even if to cheat or play cheaply, before offering her a handshake and wishing them a good fight, Nabeshima accepting it with a smirk.

Aso asks Shiranui what she thinks will happen, and she answers that she thinks the basketball club will have an advantage, though comments that it's slightly different from regular basketball before smirking evilly and saying that she warned them that "the real problem isn't just getting the balls in the basket", scaring Aso, who then realizes that the time to start the match almost arrived while they were talking, and gives the countdown, marking the start of the competition. Everyone, both male and female, struggles to reach the bottom of the pool and throw the balls, prompting Shiranui to laugh sadistically at them, shocking Aso into silence. As Nabeshima emerges from the water, her teammates complain to her about the difficulty of the match, to which she thinks that she might have underestimated it. She then turns to look at how the student council is doing, only to see Zenkichi and Akune nonchalantly getting out of the pool. When she asks them what they're doing, Zenkichi explains that they'd only get in Medaka's way if they stayed inside. When Nabeshima asks where Medaka is, Zenkichi tells her that no matter where she is, Medaka's intent is pomp and circumstance. Right as he says this, Medaka emerges from the pool with a pile of balls, which she presses together into one giant ball that she throws into the hoop, instantly netting them twenty points and stunning the entire pool. As Aso comments on how crazy the shot is, Shiranui explains that throwing multiple balls at once is the proper strategy for the game. Albeit impressed, Aso points out that, now that she explained it, everyone is trying to copy Medaka.

As the match concludes, having copied the strategy, almost everyone ended up with the same amount of points. As Zenkichi is thankful for Shiranui since people would complain if the organizers of the event ended up with the top score, Medaka indicates that they weren't the first to get twenty points, pointing out the swim team trio, who'd subtly won without anyone else noticing. As Zenkichi notes that they're the same ones Shiranui had warned him about, Medaka explains that she was able to descend thanks to her lung capacity, but the three employed the strategy of emptying out their lungs before diving, a strategy that can easily lead to drowining. When she confronts them, asking whether or not they value their lives, Sotsu Tanegashima confidently dismisses her, saying that money is worth more than their lives to them. Away from this confrontation, Nabeshima swears that she'll get her comeuppance on Medaka while her teammates point out her sorry state.
