Personality[]
Like all the other delinquents, Kyousai is a rebellious and aggressive man, eager to break school rules with his attire and smoking, as well as opposing Medaka Kurokami, being one of the few to not vote for her. However, he is eventually reformed by Medaka, awakening to a true passion for kendo, stating that he once wanted to be Japan's greatest swordsman[1].
Appearance[]
Kyousai is a large and plump yet short young man with a round face and sharp teeth. He is shown to always be wearing a blue Hakoniwa Academy jersey with black sleeves and yellow stripes (orange in the anime), as well as black sweatpants with yellow stripes. His most significant accessory is a beige beanie with a black skull design on the top and crossed bones on the front, covering his hair and forehead, casting a permanent shadow on his face. He is also shown wearing a blue and black kendo hakama during practice.
Background[]
Although Hakoniwa Academy's kendo hall holds the most tradition among the school's facilities, the club was dissolved a few years prior, thanks to a lack of members, and the building remained unused. Thus, at some point, it was taken over by a group of delinquents, led by Mahibi, which Kyousai belongs to, who began using it as their primary hang-out spot. Although Medaka presumes that Kyousai and his friends had once been loyal kendo club members, only turned to delinquents due to some tragedy, the reality is reportedly that they simply liked playing with swords. However, after Medaka's intervention, the kendo club was officially restored, and Kyousai joined as a member[1].

剣道 , Kendō): Similarly to his delinquent friends, he spent most of his time in the clubroom hanging around, only seriously starting to practice after Medaka's intervention. As a result, he is weaker than Habataki, and easily defeated by the younger boy[1].

- Kyousai's last name, Usa, is written with the characters for "roof" and "help". As with most other characters in Medaka Box, it is taken from a place name: Usa City in Oita Prefecture.
- Kyousai's first name is written with the characters for "surprise" and "worship".
- Kyousai was voted forty-sixth most popular in the second popularity poll, alongside Garaharu Ushibuka and Konkei Yufuin.
