"I'm a professional killer contracted by order! With fourteen holy crosses at my side, I begin executing my errand! Right now, it's time for Niounomiya Izumu..... Izumu the Man Eater."
- — Izumu Niounomiya
Izumu Niounomiya (
It is later revealed that they aren't actually a split personality at all, but twins, using the facade of a split personality as a way to let Izumu move freely, with Rizumu being a puppet controlled remotely by him[4]. Before retiring, he used to be the Third Step of the Thirteen Stairs. When he joined, he was the Seventh Step[5].
Personality[]
Izumu is a hyperactive and impulsive person, prone to bursting into fits of laughter. He has a rule of only being allowed to kill for one hours a day[1]. However, he has to kill during this one hour, or otherwise, his personality would destabilize. Although he is a hitman, he is shown to be quite unprofessional, immediately talking about his assignment to kill Yaku Kigamine and Kuchiha Madoka even though he wasn't supposed to[6]. He is quite prideful of his strength, feeling offended when his replacements in the Thirteen Stairs were a member of a branch family of Niounomiya and a member of the Yamiguchi family, whom he considers inferior. Izumu is also shown to hate the Tokinomiya Hospital, the Niounomiya's opposites, so much so that he claimed he would mow them down the moment he saw them, which is why Takashi Saitou waited for Izumu to retire before inviting Jikoku Tokinomiya[5]. He is a ruthless murder addict who embodies overwhelming strength. Even so, he explained that he became bored and tired of murder, something he only realized himself after fighting Ichihime Yukariki. He is also shown to not be entirely inhuman, as he genuinely tried to follow his promise with The Nonsense User and not kill anyone in front of him, until he was unable to do so, as Hime didn't surrender until he killed her. Izumu also tries to kill all of his victims instantly, with no pain, although he justifies this as just not wanting to hear any screams[7].
In addition, Izumu truly does care for his sister, not seeing her as a mere puppet. In their relationship, he embodies all their the strength while she takes on their weakness. Izumu made the Nonsense User promise to become Rizumu's friend, as the girl had no real relationships, always being discarded and forgetting everything[6]. Once she died, he decided to give up on the hitman business at last, and to fight Jun Aikawa, the one known as Humanity's Strongest, in order to test his power[7]. After his battle with Aikawa, Izumu seems to have mellowed out. While traces of his manic personality still remain, he appears much calmer and jaded. After barely escaping alive from his battle, he decided he wouldn't try to fight her again, realizing she's too much for him. Since, when she was alive, she handled all of the parts of their everyday life, now, without her, Izumu is struggling to learn how to lead a normal life, and appears quite unstable, according to the Nonsense User. He has shown a more caring side by helping the Nonsense User even though he really had no reason to. When he pointed this out to Izumu, defying expectations, instead of becoming angry, but instead he blushed and tried to change the subject[5].
Appearance[]
Izumu has the body of a slim young girl with yellow eyes and long black hair. Like his sister, he always wears glasses, although he usually keeps them on his forehead. He is most often shown wearing his green straight jacket one piece that binds his arms, as well as green high heels and bandages around his legs. In addition, he usually has a gauze on his head. When not restrained, he is also shown wearing a black jacket over his naked torso and black pants.
During his battle with Aikawa, he lost most of his long hair, being left with a short bob haircut similar to that of Houko Yamiguchi, with his bangs held back by his glasses. When the Nonsense User visited him, he was topless with a pair of black leather pants (although, at his insistence, Izumu eventually put the Nonsense User's T-shirt on).
Background[]
Izumu and Rizumu are a part of the Niounomiya Troupe, the strongest of the Killing Names. Their mental link, as well as Izumu's powerful body, are creations of the Kitsuregawa Research Institute[8]. However, their overwhelming strength became so unparalleled that even the Niounomiya abandoned them. Afterwards, they were picked up by Takashi Saitou as the Seventh and Eighth Steps of the Thirteen Stairs, and continued working under the man's orders, eventually climbing the ranks to Third and Fourth Step[5].
Abilities and Equipment[]
- Killing Field (
殺戮 , Kiringu Fīrudo, lit. "Slaughter"): In the Niounomiya Siblings' assassination duo, Izumu is the one in charge of the actual deed of murder, which he performs with extreme proficiency. Due to the destructive power of his technique, both of Izumu's arms are kept restrained most of the time[3]. - Eating One (
一喰い , Ītingu Wan, lit. "One Bite"): Izumu's "treasured sword", his ultimate technique which is sealed away most of the time due to its deadly effects. "Eating One" causes anything Izumu's hands make contact with to be "eaten" and utterly obliterated. He has stated that, using this ability, he could completely erase a child of preschool age, leaving nothing behind. In addition, Izumu is unable to hold this ability back, only being able to strike with its total power. While already insanely overpowered, this ability becomes even more unstoppable when factoring in the nature of his arms which can, through a combination of intensive training and his own artificial body, bend in any direction and move with inhuman speed and accuracy[7].
