The Girl (少女(しょうじょ), Shōjo), real name Shou Yamai (山井(やまい) 笑(しょう), Yamai Shō) is the main heroine of Shounen Shoujo. She is another girl with the strange sickness that plagues the Boy, which makes her unable to see any personal identifiers, and will also kill her when she turns 12 years old.

Personality

The Girl is a cheerful and friendly person, who is always very nice towards the Boy, never realizing that he was planning to kill her. She feels that the boy "closed his heart", and does her best to make him break out of his shell.

In stark contrast to the Boy, the Girl is a deeply creative person, spending her time making sculptures and other kinds of pieces of art, this side of her being represented in how she sees the faces of other people as colorful blobs, as opposed to the Boy, who sees them as covered in ink.

She is also a genius, having mastered all academic subjects before the age of 10. Even so, she calls all of her achievements in science to only be something she did in her free time, with her main occupation being art.

Appearance

The Girl is a little bit taller than the Boy, as she is closer to the age of 12 than him. She has long brown hair, with a large button-shaped accessory on the side of her head, and large blue eyes. She is always seen wearing her pink hospital gown, over which she wears a colorful cloth, presumably sewn by her. She also wears a pair of yellow animal-shaped slippers.

Background

The Girl was born a wonderous genious who, while still being a child, figured out the answers to humanity's biggest questions at such a quick rate that, were she to be revealed to the world at large, her knowledge would destroy human society as a whole. As such, her parents came to the conclusion that they must kill her before that could happen. However, as they realized that they couldn't kill the girl, whose genius was unparalleled, as they were, they became criminals, with her mother becoming an arsonist and her father becoming a murderer, all as practice in order to be able to kill the girl. The girl, however, countered this by creating a disease which would make her immortal until the age of twelve.

• The Girl's first name, Shou, means "laugh", but is a play on the word for disease (症), which is pronounced the same.
• The Girl's last name, Yamai, means "mountain well", and is also a play on another word meaning disease (病), which is pronounced the same.
