The Densetsu Series (
Background[]
The Densetsu Series debuted on the 26th of April, 2012, with the novel Himei Den (Legend of the Scream), and concluded on the 28th of March 2018 with Hijuu Den (Legend of the End), with a total of 10 volumes, all published by Kodansha. The first novel of the series was adapted into a manga series, illustrated by Osamu Mitsutani. Its first volume was released on the 6th of May, 2016, and it had a total of 23 chapters, collected into 4 volumes. Unlike every other series written by Nisio, the Densetsu Series has no illustrations, with the exception of the last volume of the series, which depicts the protagonist, Kuu Sorakara, looking at the sky, from behind. Said cover was illustrated by Fuu Midori (also responsible for illustrating the cover of Shoujo Fujuubun).
Premise[]
The story follows Kuu Sorakara, an unfeeling boy who always puts on a mask of emotion to hide the fact that he can never feel any emotion. One day, a scream was heard all around the world, killing a third of the human population. Six months later, Kuu confesses his unfeeling disposition to a doctor during a check-up, thinking nothing of it. The doctor, however, has ties to an organization known as the Earth Eradication Army, a force fighting to destroy the Earth itself, as it is trying to terminate the human race (the scream being caused by it). The Army deems the boy to be a perfect candidate to become a hero, logically determining that since Kuu is unfeeling, he can never have any weaknesses born of human compassion, and therefore can become the best fighter against the Earth. And so, they send Kenka Kendou to kill Kuu's parents and siblings, and also dispose of every one of his aquaintances, no matter how insignificant their interaction may have been, in order to "sever all of his attachments to his old life". Thus, Kuu joins the Earth Eradication Army, having nothing better to do.

Each book's title is made up of a word beginning with the kanji 悲 (Hi), and the kanji for "legend" (伝, Den).
